One year ago today at 6 am, Sunday, June 6, 2021, I left Astoria, Oregon and cycled all day in the wind and rain to my first night’s destination in Tillamook, Oregon. It was an exhilarating, challenging, and auspicious start, and 93 days, 2 hours, and 52 minutes later, I arrived at the finish “monument“ in Yorktown, Virginia! As I write this from the warm comfort of an Arcata, California coffee house, I am smiling and shaking my head in awe, joy, and appreciation!

It was the most magnificent journey of my life so far and I am deeply grateful for many things, including each of you. as your support and encouragement filled the sails of my soul and kept me soaring easterly.

Three major things I learned from the tour and remember often…

1. I can accomplish incomprehensible challenges if taken in manageable pieces, and if I have support, financing, good health, and good luck!

2. If it’s bad, it’ll get better; If it’s good, it’ll get worse!

and

3. It’s about the journey; not the destination!

Again, I am deeply grateful for you, and for so much. Please let me know if I can return the support some how. And I am available to lend advice on your bicycle tour; short or long.

Andy
